Livestock Feasibility and Investment Support in Rwanda

Prime Consulting conducted a feasibility study and business plan for a proposed integrated beef and goat development project in Rwanda. The project centred on the development of a 6,000 hectare block of land at Gako in the Bugesera District, identified as having strong potential for livestock production.

The assignment assessed the technical, economic and operational viability of increasing the land’s carrying capacity to support higher livestock numbers. This included analysis of grazing systems, animal productivity, infrastructure requirements and farm management models suited to local conditions.

In parallel, Prime Consulting evaluated the feasibility of establishing a value added slaughter and processing facility to strengthen market access, improve returns and support downstream manufacturing opportunities.

The work applied a value chain approach, examining how on farm production, processing, distribution and market access could be integrated to maximise commercial outcomes. Financial modelling and risk analysis were used to test different development scenarios and inform investment decision making.

The feasibility study and business plan were completed on behalf of the United States Agency for International Development and the Government of Rwanda, providing a robust evidence base to support future investment and sector development decisions.
