♦ Market access facilitation and market development, including marketing strategy development, for eggs and pork from New Zealand into Singapore, working with New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and private sector clients; 2003-2005.

Malaysia

♦ Capacity building of the Malaysian livestock sector through the design and delivery of an animal husbandry train-the-trainer programme in partnership with the country’s National Agriculture Training Council, working with New Zealand’s former Agriculture Industry Training Organisation; 2011.

♦ Organised work-based vocational training for Malaysian trainees in New Zealand, working with New Zealand’s former Agriculture Industry Training Organisation; 2006-2007.

♦ Advised private sector clients on enterprise / facility design and business planning in the dairy and horticulture sectors; 2002-2019.

♦ Provided technical consultancies to livestock farmers and horticultural growers in the private sector, including conducting agri-sector and land development feasibility studies; 2005-2019.

♦ Organised a study tour for representatives from the Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture to New Zealand, working with several New Zealand Government agencies and educational / training institutions in the agricultural sector; 2005.

♦ Conducted market research activities in relation to agri-tech opportunities in Malaysia on behalf of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise; 2005.

♦ Formulation of a One Health Partnership 5-Year Action Plan and Budget for Vietnam, funded by the European Union; 2021-2022.

♦ Organised a study tour for a delegation of Chinese dairy industry representatives to New Zealand; 2010.

♦ Established a company, Education New Zealand International Ltd, to lead business missions involving New Zealand personnel to Suzhou, China to establish New Zealand university programmes in the country; 2003 and 2004.

♦ Presented a paper on agricultural reform to the Western China Modern Agriculture Development Forum in Chengdu, at the request of the Sichuan Provincial Government; 2002.

♦ Accompanied officials from the New Zealand Government on two trade missions to China, in association with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise; 2001 / 2002.

♦ Completed a diary industry feasibility study for a private client in China; 2002.

♦ Provided technical advice to the Government of Hong Kong in relation to the review of a large state-owned, private sector-run abattoir, which provided the majority of Hong Kong’s fresh meat supplies; 2007-2008.

♦ Provision of an International Evaluation Specialist to assess two Asian Development Bank projects relating to water and urban infrastructure services in India; 2023.

♦ Compiled and provided the Japan Agriculture & Livestock Industries Corporation (ALIC) with New Zealand dairy industry monitoring reports; 2019-2020.

♦ Hosted researchers from ALIC Japan in New Zealand to study the country’s dairy-related environmental regulations and management practices; 2019.

♦ Prepared New Zealand Dairy Industry overview report for ALIC Japan; 2005.

♦ Conducted market development activities in Japan for a food safety and biosecurity risk assessment tool developed in New Zealand, on behalf of the EpiCentre at Massey University; 2002.

♦ Reviewed New Zealand initiatives aimed at increasing the use of high-quality forage as a rural production tool over a 30-year period for the Japan’s Agriculture & Livestock Industries Corporation; 1999.

♦ Completed a profile on New Zealand non-traditional exports to Japan for the Japanese Embassy; 1995.

Korea

♦ Market development for a New Zealand value-added beef to enter Korea; 2006.

Mongolia

♦ Assisted with the development of the livestock industry in Mongolia, including contributing to an improved body of knowledge for the reform of industry practices for livestock slaughter and developing suitable business models for the operation of sustainable slaughterhouse businesses; 2011.

Oman

♦ Technical assistance (PPP advisory) for livestock quarantine and veterinary services in Oman for the country’s Ministry of Finance via United Kingdom company Altra Capital; 2024.

Uzbekistan

♦ Contributed to the design and preparation of urban development projects for the Republic of Uzbekistan, as part of the Asian Development Bank-funded Uzbekistan Integrated Urban Development Project; 2020-2021.

Regional

♦ Development of a One Health Regional Surveillance Strategy for five Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) on behalf of the World Bank and Alinea International; 2022-2023.

♦ Programme evaluation of ‘North Asia Beef Market Services’, a programme that ran in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan from 2004 to 2007, on behalf of Meat and Wool New Zealand; 2008.

Caribbean

♦ Provided technical assistance to the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), including assistance developing an online learning platform, for a project aimed at developing a networked advisory and training structure to improve the capacity of the small ruminant (sheep and goat) sector across Jamaica, St Lucia, Guyana, Belize, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Dominica; 2015-2018.

♦ Developed a code of practice for Australian Pork Ltd, for the safe design, construction, operation and maintenance of on-farm biogas systems; 2010-2012.

♦ Governance and operational leadership for TOP Pork Pty Ltd, a major supplier of pork to the Coles supermarket chain; 2006-2011.

♦ Completed an article for the Australian Law Reform Commission Reform Journal, ‘Animals and the Law in Australia: A Livestock Industry Perspective’, on behalf of Australian Pork Ltd; 2007.

♦ Engaged by the South Australian Farmers Federation to work with pig farmers and collect farm data to work up a response to the Federal Productivity Commission review of pig meat importation; 2007.

♦ Conducted a feasibility study for a large-scale export food processing operation in New Zealand for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and a private offshore investor; 2019.

♦ Economic analysis for alternative farrowing systems in the New Zealand pork industry; 2015.

♦ Presented a paper on traceability systems at the World Pork Conference in Auckland, on behalf of New Zealand Pork, and co-facilitated a global business strategy workshop with participants from 32 countries; 2000.

♦ Worked with the former New Zealand Dairy Board and four major research organisations to develop a framework for the economic evaluation of research and development projects in the country’s dairy industry; 1997.

Pacific Islands

♦ Region-wide ecosystem mapping for climate change social entrepreneurship for Climate-KIC (funded by IrishAid); 2023-2024.

♦ Design of a capacity building programme, funded by New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, to help 15 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) better access climate finance; 2023. 

Cook Islands

♦ Developed a health strategy for the Cook Islands that considers climate related health challenges on behalf of the Cook Islands Government and Asian Development Bank; 2023.

♦ Technical assistance to the Cook Islands Government to develop a proposal to the Green Climate Fund for funds to strengthen health system infrastructure and practices, to handle emerging risks driven by climate change; 2022-23.

♦ Prepared a successful proposal in conjunction with Rarotonga-based Pacific Consultants Ltd to help the Cook Islands secure US $3 million from the international Adaption Fund to help front-foot climate change; 2018-2019.

♦ Developed a project design for the Cook Islands Outer Island Development Fund Project, including an approach, guiding principles and policy procedures, on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; 1999.

Fiji

♦ Development of pilot programme for online training of Pacific para-veterinary professionals for SPC; 2021.

♦ Design and implementation of the Fiji Dairy Development Initiative (FDIDI), on behalf of New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; 2016-2020.

♦ Provision of embedded Agriculture Policy and Animal Health Advisors to the Ministry of Agriculture in Fiji, as part of the Fiji Dairy Development Initiative (FDIDI); 2018-2020.

♦ Development of a Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Strategy for the dairy industry in Fiji, as part of the Fiji Dairy Development Initiative (FDIDI); 2018-2019.

♦ Greenhouse gas footprinting of the Fiji dairy industry in collaboration with New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries and AgResearch; 2019.

♦ Completed a scoping study for agriculture aid opportunities in Fiji on behalf of New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; 2014.

♦ Facilitated the establishment of a trust to allow conservation of the Sovi Basin Forest on behalf of Conservation International; 2001-2003.

♦ Conducted a management review of the Banaban Trust Fund, established in Rabi Island, Fiji, in 1981, on behalf of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), which serves as the United Nations’ regional hub; 1998.

Kiribati

♦ Worked with the Government of Kiribati develop a four-year national development plan, covering all aspects of the economy and government services; 2020-2021.

♦ Prepared the Outer Island Development Programme (project preparation and capacity building work for the Kiribati Outer Island Trust Fund, established in 2003) on behalf of the Asian Development Bank as part of ADB TA 3593-KIR; 2001-2004.

Marshall Islands

♦ Provided technical advice for a Fiscal and Financial Management Programme (the Marshall Islands Intergenerational Trust Fund – TA 3668-RMI) on behalf of the Asian Development Bank; 2003.

Niue

♦ Designing a trust fund for infrastructure financing in Niue on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade; 2023-2024.

♦ Assisted with the establishment of a Niue trust fund on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; 1998.

♦ Conducted analysis of national monetary inflows and outflows in Niue on behalf of SPC; 1996.

Nauru

♦ Conducted a review of trust funds in Nauru on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme; 2007.

♦ Provided capacity building support to the Government and people of Nauru, in relation to financial and economic management, on behalf of the Asian Development Bank as part of ADB TA 3125-NAU; 2005.

Samoa

♦ Technical study and revision of a GCF pre-feasibility study and concept note on the impact of climate change and transboundary / invasive species on food security in Samoa, for SPC; 2021.

Solomon Islands

♦ Construction procurement technical assistance for the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, funded by World Bank; 2022-2025.

Tokelau

♦ Provided set-up and management support to the Tokelau Trust Fund, including community consultation and design work, on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; 2002-2003.

Tonga

♦ Technical study and revision of a GCF pre-feasibility study and concept note on the impact of climate change and transboundary/invasive species on food security in Tonga; 2021.

♦ Provided management support to the Tonga Development Bank on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; 1998-2001.

♦ Assisted with the set-up and early management of a business recovery facility in Tonga on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and AusAid; 2006/ 2007.

Tuvalu

♦ Implementation of a social and economic wellbeing survey conducted as part of an island development programme on behalf of the Asian Development Bank; 2001.

♦ Completed a report on the revised Terms of Reference for ADB TA 3074-TUV to establish a trust fund for island development in Tuvalu on behalf of the Asian Development Bank; 1999.

♦ Conducted a review of the Development Bank of Tuvalu, set up with support from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1994; 1996.

♦ Provided recommendations to the Board of Directors at the Asian Development Bank on a proposed loan to the Republic of Tuvalu; 1998. 

Vanuatu

♦ Development of pilot programme for online training of Pacific para-veterinary professionals, for SPC; 2021.

♦ Designed an environment and climate change trust fund for Vanuatu, on behalf of the Asian Development Bank, which utilised small charges on tourists to build an endowment fund for the long-term sustainability of environment/climate change programmes and projects at the community level; 2014.
