Strengthening Food Systems and Rural Development in Africa
Prime Consulting works across Africa with governments, donors, private investors and local partners to strengthen food systems, improve rural livelihoods and support sustainable sector growth. Our regional capability is built around practical delivery, strong local engagement and a clear understanding of the commercial, institutional and social factors that shape successful development.
Across the continent, our work draws on deep expertise in dairy, livestock, agribusiness investment, value chain development, market systems and climate-resilient farming. We help clients move from strategy to implementation by combining technical insight with hands-on programme delivery, economic analysis and local capability building.
Our experience in Ethiopia, Rwanda and Zambia provides a strong platform for broader regional support. Whether the need is a feasibility study, value chain assessment, programme design, investment planning or full implementation, Prime Consulting brings the networks, people and delivery discipline needed to turn complex challenges into practical outcomes.
Project Spotlight - Zambia Dairy Transformation Programme
Prime Consulting implemented the Zambia Dairy Transformation Programme in Central Province and the Copperbelt from 2016-2023.
The programme was designed to strengthen Zambia’s national dairy value chain by increasing both the quality and quantity of milk produced by smallholder farmers for commercial sale.
Funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, it adopted a market systems and value chain approach, working simultaneously at farm, cooperative and processor levels.
The programme successfully increased the volume of locally produced milk entering formal supply chains, improving both farmer incomes and processor efficiency and contributing to improved nutrition and public health outcomes across the country.
