Prime joins global consulting panel at Green Climate Fund
Prime Consulting International has joined a global consulting panel at Green Climate Fund to help developing nations turn climate ambition into action.
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) – a critical element of the historic Paris Agreement – is the world’s largest climate fund. It is mandated to support developing countries raise and realise their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) ambitions towards low-emissions, climate-resilient pathways.
Prime has been selected as one of the GCF’s trusted Readiness Programme support service providers. This means we will be able to offer capacity-building support to developing countries to help them access $22.3 billion in GCF financing.
“This is an exciting development for Prime as it will enable us to offer our climate readiness services on a global stage,” said Prime Group Chairman Dr Alan Pearson.
A core GCF principle is to follow a country-driven approach, which is something that strongly resonates with Prime’s values.
“Our people are drawn from a global network but rooted in-country, with over 70% local representation,” said Dr Pearson. “Like the GCF, we believe country ownership of climate financing decisions, whether they be via GCF or otherwise, results in better outcomes overall. This is because local contexts differ, even if the overall principles of sustainable climate action remain the same.”
Prime’s acceptance as a trusted supplier in the Readiness Programme builds on our work done in the Pacific in 2023, through our Nimmo-Bell & Associates team, assisting the New Zealand Government with a capacity building programme to help Pacific Island Countries access climate finance (read more here).
We also recently helped the Cook Islands secure the GCF’s fastest-ever funds disbursement. Akamatutu’anga To Tatou Ora’anga Meitaki or 'ATOM' was approved in record time in early 2024, following submission of a pre-feasibility study completed by a team led by Prime economics and finance expert Michael Yap.
“Prime is able to help countries bridge the gap between climate ambition and finance readiness—ensuring that every plan, policy and project is grounded in real-world challenges and built to deliver lasting, climate-resilient outcomes,” said Dr Pearson.
“Our past work includes the design of climate trust funds, accreditation support, institutional strengthening, and successful GCF proposal submissions, such as the one for ATOM. Our track record has clearly given the GCF confidence that Prime is a trusted partner, and we are thrilled to be joining the Readiness Programme as a support service provider.”
