Dr Tony McDonaldis a climate resilience and environmental specialist with over 25 years of experience across urban and rural systems in fragile states.
He has led multidisciplinary teams for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Australian Aid and the European Union, bridging donor strategy with participatory action to deliver climate risk assessments, adaptation strategies, nature-based solutions and climate-smart agriculture.
Dr McDonald’s rural experience spans dryland farming, catchment management and value chain enhancement across Afghanistan, the Mekong and Africa. His urban portfolio includes infrastructure resilience planning for seven Yemeni cities. In the Pacific, Dr McDonald has undertaken climate and environmental assignments in Kiribati and Papua New Guinea.
As an environmental specialist, Dr McDonald has produced Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, Resettlement Action Plans and environmental compliance strategies (ECOMAP) in a variety of settings, including for post-tsunami Aceh.
Dr McDonald holds a PhD in desertification studies and is an Adjunct Research Fellow at Charles Sturt University, Australia.
